Several cities in the provinces of Lorestan and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari have been particularly affected. In Azna, three people were killed and several others injured, while at least two more died in Lordegan. Witness accounts and online videos show burning barricades, gunfire, and angry chants. According to state media, some protesters attacked public buildings, prompting police to respond with tear gas.

A 21-year-old member of the pro-government Basij militia was also killed during the unrest. Compared to past protests, the government has adopted a more cautious tone, announcing plans for dialogue with trade unions and merchants, while simultaneously warning against violence and alleged foreign interference. Several individuals accused of links to opposition groups abroad have been arrested.
The protests began peacefully in Tehran and quickly spread, with students from numerous universities joining in. The unrest is driven by a deepening economic crisis and has revived memories of the mass protests following the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022. (Al Jazeera)
