Vienna: The crisis team at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has met several times in Vienna since Sunday. In light of the military hostilities in the Middle East, the body is convening to assess the current situation — particularly with regard to Austrian citizens currently in the region.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, approximately 17,000 Austrian citizens are currently registered in the crisis area, including around 2,500 travelers. The top priority is the safety of these individuals.

The team has been reinforced to ensure that as many affected persons as possible can be reached via SMS or through reiseregistrierung.at. At the same time, people are urgently advised to follow official instructions and seek safety.

For several countries in the region — Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait — travel warnings have been raised to the highest level (Level 4), and travel to these destinations is explicitly discouraged.

Recommendations for those affected

-Register on reiseregistrierung.at and maintain close communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (e.g. via SMS)

-Regularly seek information through official channels

-Follow instructions issued by local authorities

-Seek shelter in buildings and exercise increased caution due to closed airspace

-Ensure you have sufficient emergency supplies (food, water), medication, cash in local and easily convertible currency, as well as basic medical supplies and documents — especially if the situation remains unstable
